Using Our Voices: Student Political Graphics from East Los Angeles College

Classroom-in-Residence & Pop-Up Exhibition
June 1–July 22, 2023

In Spring 2023, the Vincent Price Art Museum partnered with the East Los Angeles College Political Science program to develop a cross-curricular project inspired by the exhibition What Would You Say?: Activist Graphics from the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

Drawn upon their in-classroom knowledge and personal lived experiences, participating students created original artworks over four weekly sessions held at the museum. Students participated in three hands-on printmaking workshops that gave voice to a contemporary, politically-charged topic of their choice using different print techniques: direct monoprints, two-tone relief prints, and silkscreen stencil prints. The resulting exhibition presents all works created through this collaborative program, highlighting the diverse perspectives and creative expression of students at East Los Angeles College.

The Classroom-in-Residence program was led by Nathalie Sánchez, Curator of Education Programs and Dr. Kenneth Chaiprasert, Political Science Professor with master printmaker Victor Rosas and ELAC museum studies student and artist Jimmy Saldivar.
