Catalyst

Catalyst

March 22 - April 20, 2019

The Art and Animation Club has curated an exhibition which explores the catalysts in our lives that sparked our commitment to pursue art as a career. We asked East Los Angeles College students to create work which speaks to the specific influential moment(s) which swayed them to create. The chosen work for the exhibition includes painting, drawing, illustration, sculpture, ceramics, digital prints, and animation. Students interpreted the theme of catalyst through portraiture, landscape, still life and abstraction ranging from playful experimentation to the macabre. Each artist also included a written statement which addresses their work, and is available for the public to read while walking through the exhibition. Through this show, the Art and Animation Club hopes to communicate some of the underlying reasons why artists create.

On display in the Community Focus Gallery through April 20th.
