Avenues of Latinx Publishing

Avenues of Latinx Publishing

Saturday, February 4, 2023, 2:00PM – 3:00PM

Join us in-person or via live stream on Youtube, featuring ELAC Professor Beatriz Ruiz Silva (Author of Dichos que Aprendí en México), Viva Padilla (Writer/Publisher), and Norma Fabian Newton (Founder of Fabian Flores Publishing). The panel will be moderated by Isela Rangel, Education and Public Programming Consultant, inside our Librería Donceles exhibition space.

Panelists will discuss how Latinx communities access and produce their own books and narratives. This event is designed to inform our ELAC campus and museum community about the difficulties, formalities, and empowerment of traditional, self-published, and/or independent publishing; with a focus on Chicanx/Latinx, bilingual, and Spanish-language texts.

The conversation will be led by a group of Latina women each making space for their culture and community! This event is presented in conjunction with the exhibition Librería Donceles, a socially engaged art project created by artist and educator Pablo Helguera. Light refreshments will be provided.

Vincent Price Art Museum is located at 1301 Avenida Cesar Chavez, Monterey Park, CA 9175. Museum admission and parking are free!
